If you grow up near the coast.....
...the salt water marshes grab a piece of your heart.

Life thrives in the salt marsh. A nursery for fish, shrimp, and many other forms of marine life, the marsh is also a food source for many bird species. Here there are a great egret, great blue heron, and little blue heron. The mornong light lends soft colors to the marsh vegetation. |
Morning over the marsh at Rockefeller Wildlife Refuge
As the sun comes up the marsh seems to come to life. There is plenty of activity at night however. Alligators thrive here as well as swamp rabbit....and of course the ever present mosquito! |
